District 31 legislators face new challenges this year
As they prepare to consider as many as 1,000 bills and resolutions, this will be the sixth session for District 31 legislators Sen. Donald Schaible, Rep. Karen Rohr and Rep. Jim Schmidt. The slate of Republicans was first elected in 2010, and now approach a legislative session like no other.
Due to COVID-19, masks are required and lawmakers are taking other precautions to protect themselves and those visiting the Capitol. And there are other challenges facing legislators as the 67th Legislative Assembly convened Jan. 5.
“Part of it is the revenue shortfall, of what we were projecting and what we’ll have. The other thing is the procedure of how we go through this. That’s going to be vastly different,” Schaible said.
