On Mar. 25, Governor Doug Burgum addressed the state through a ND Dept. of Health Joint Information Center press conference.


Governor Burgum announced that nine new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in North Dakota. Foster County and Stark County are newly affected North Dakota Counties. These additional cases bring the total count of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in North Dakota to 45.

New Executive Order:

Governor Burgum also announced new Executive Order 2020-12, an order that will expand first responder compensation coverage to include viruses. According to Burgum, the order will encompass a wide range of first responders and health care workers that are regularly exposed to COVID-19 on the job, from volunteer firefighters to EMT crews. Compensation includes both wage replacement and medical benefits.


According to Governor Burgum, a new record was set for unemployment claims in North Dakota. Over 11,700 unemployment claims were filed in just the last week, setting the new record.


North Dakota was approved by the federal government to have more flexibilities in its Medicaid program to deal with the COVID-19 emergency.
