Viola Hertha Roth age 92 passed away on Saturday April 2, 2022, at Jacobson Memorial Hospital Care Center in Elgin, ND. The Funeral Service

The Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m. MT on Saturday April 9, 2022 at Zion Lutheran Church in Elgin. Burial was alongside her husband at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND.

Viola Hertha Kranich was born on February 22, 1930, in Elgin, ND to Sam and Juliana (Kuehn) Kranich. She was raised on a farm north of Elgin and attended school in Elgin, graduating from Elgin High School in 1947. She attended college in Dickinson, ND and graduated with a two-year teaching degree.

She started teaching in 1950 in a rural school, taught in Bentley and Heil School Districts, and finished her career at the Elgin Elementary School. She retired in 1993 after 40 years of teaching.

Viola always enjoyed a good card game with friends and loved working in her garden. She also had a great love for children, which is why she chose the teaching profession.

Viola was united in marriage to Kenneth Roth on August 12, 1988. They lived in Elgin and Kenneth farmed with his brother while Viola continued her teaching career. Viola and Kenneth were members of Zion Lutheran Church. Her husband Kenneth passed away on May 27, 2012.

Viola is survived by her brother-in-law, Dennis (Veryl) Roth; Wayne Dettmann; sister-in-law, Agnus Kranich, Jackie Seibel and Kim Heidelman.

Viola was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Arthur Hintz; Otto Haase; Henry Laub; Louis Dressler; Val Roll; Kenneth Seibel; Ken Heidelman; Jerry Schriock; Duane Wahl; Ted Brackel; sister-in-laws, Eva Kranich; Elizabeth Kranich; Eileen Kranich; Dorothy Brackel; Bernice Dettmann; Patsy Schriock; and Joyce Wahl.

Viola was the last one of her siblings to pass away. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents; brothers Arthur, Herbert, Paul, Edgar and Raymond; sisters Hattie Hintz, Ella Haase, Irene Laub, Ada Dressler, Nita Roll and baby Elsie.
