Roland Roth

Roland Roth

Roland Elmer Roth passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family August 10. He was 87 years young at the time of his passing. Roland never let anything like age or disease keep him from doing what he loved, which was taking care of his family and his farm.

Roland was born on his family farm near Glen Ullin on December 1, 1934. He was born to August and Esther (Hintz) Roth and was the fourth of eight children. He left school early to work on the family farm and helped surrounding families and neighbors. He was drafted into the Army in 1957 and he served for two years before being honorably discharged in 1959. He met his wife Marilyn Petersen in a little café in Mobridge, SD. They were married December 16, 1961 and celebrated 60 years of marriage. They had three chil- dren: Rolanda, Dan and Samantha.

Roland was resourceful and could find a solution to any problem. He worked in construction, mining, farming and ranching but his true talent was raising livestock. He raised great cattle, sheep, horses and dogs. Roland was a humble man of iron will, determination, and incredible work ethic. He worked on his farm up until the time of his passing. He was a great cowboy and an avid barrel racer, even winning the Open Senior Division when he was 72. He charmed everyone with his warm, genuine smile and friendly personality. Roland was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back and then invite you to sit for a cup of coffee and a visit. Roland was always ready to help his neighbors or strangers. He loved to attend polka fests and was a very popular dance partner. He also loved to spend time with his grandkids and great grandkids, giving them their first horseback ride as babies. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, his children and his grandchildren Rolanda Texley (Todd), Dan Roth (Rebeka), Samantha Dynes (Kevin), Heather Schmidt (Adam), Dustin Texley (Cristina), Carly Swain (Jimmy), Hunter and Hannah Roth, Alex and Alivia Dynes; his great grandchildren Teague, Harlon, and Wright Texley, Aden, Zoey, and Cru Schmidt, and Marley Swain. He is also survived by his sister Carol Marten and sister-in-law Grace Roth and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents August and Esther Roth and his siblings Marvin, Harlan, Harold, Elda May, Lavern, and Diane, niece Lori Martin, sister-in-law Marilyn Roth and great friends and relatives.

There was a visitation August 16 from 1:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin, ND. Services wereheld at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Carson August 17 at 11:00 a.m. MT. Pastor Bethany Haberstroh officiated with burial in the Lark Cemetery. A time of fellowship and a luncheon followed at Rock Ridge in Carson. He saddled up and has left on his last ride. We will see you again cowboy, safe travels.
