The burial took place at 3:30 p.m. MT at the Hillside Cemetery in Morristown, SD.

Nancy was born on September 9, 1958, to Les & Dora (Bjorndahl) Durick. She was the youngest of five children and was the only sister in the bunch, but she adored her older brothers. Nancy attended school in Lemmon, SD and after high school, she attended the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND to pursue her dream of becoming a registered nurse. From a young age, Nancy was passionate about caring and serving others, and when she was eighteen she cared for the love of her life, Jim, after he had been in a car accident in 1976.

Jim and Nancy were united in marriage on October 1, 1982, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon, SD. To this union, they were blessed with two sons, Alan and Austin, who were truly her pride and joy. She was always their number one fan and was immensely proud of the hardworking men that they grew up to be. Because she was the only girl in the family, when Alan and Austin got married, she was very proud and fond of her daughters-in-law, Megan and Courtney, and loved being able to finally do “girl things.” In her later years, she was also proud to be a grandma to her two precious grandsons, Lane and Denim. She truly loved being a grandma and loved spending time with her grandsons whenever she got the chance and she enjoyed spending time with her grand-dog, Elliot.

As the incredible caretaker she was, Nancy worked for nearly 35 years as a registered nurse at the Jacobson Memorial Hospital & Elgin Community Clinic. Additionally, Nancy enjoyed helping the ranch with various projects, but most importantly, ensuring everyone had plenty of food and drinks for any ranch job. Nancy was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elgin for many years. For the past several years following in her mother’s footsteps as a former librarian, Nancy volunteered her time at the Elgin Library. Nancy was also an active member of the North Dakota District 6 Cattlewomen’s Association, where she enjoyed going to schools every spring and teaching students about beef and cattle production. As she took part in Cattlewomen’s for many years, she met so many lifelong friends. In her later years, she worked at Dakota Hills Housing as an RN until she retired. She truly was a social butterfly, and whether she knew you for twenty minutes or twenty years, she was always so selfless, kind, genuine, friendly, and cared deeply about the people around her. She especially enjoyed her weekly coffee socials with several friends from around the area.

Despite having numerous medical issues throughout the past couple of decades, Nancy loved to travel. She and Jim were able to travel across the country, dialysis equipment and all, many times throughout the years, seeing lots of sights and lots of rodeos. Nancy never complained about the life that she was given, and the adjustments she had to make with her medical conditions. Nancy’s beautiful smile, positive nature, love of lipstick and nail polish, famous monster cookies, lasagna, and meatballs will be missed by all of her loved ones.

Though we are saddened that she is no longer with us, we are happy that she is Home in Heaven.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jim Maier of Elgin, ND, sons and daughters-inlaw Alan & Megan of Elgin, ND, and Austin and Courtney of Almont, ND; precious grandsons, Lane and Denim; brothers Mike (Sandi) Durick of Ft.
