James Rodgers

It is with profound sadness that the family of James “Jim” Rodgers announce his passing on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at the age of 67 years as the result of a tragic farm accident.

Jim was born on November 9, 1955 in Minot, ND to Harold and Mary Rodgers. He attended school in Max, where he graduated in 1974. Following graduation, he attended BSC where he met Val Sokolofsky. They were married on October 3, 1975 in Carson, ND.

The couple started their new lives on a farm near Benedict, ND. In 1977, they were blessed with the birth of their daughter Heidi. Later that year they made the decision to move back to Val’s hometown of Carson and join her dad, Walter in the farming and ranching operation. In 1981, they completed their family with the addition of a son, Nathan. Jim made life long friendships through his work at Border States Paving and in the farming and ranching community around Carson. In the last 15 years he was able to fulfill his dream of working side by side with Nathan on the farm.

Jim worked hard and put his all into every job he did. He was always willing to lend a hand whenever someone had a need.

Throughout the years, Jim held many titles including farmer, rancher, truck driver, handyman, mechan-ic, pinochle player and jack of all trades. The titles that meant the most were those of husband, dad and especially grandpa. His grandchildren Camden, Kenley and Cullan were his pride and enjoy and he never missed an opportunity to brag about them.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Val; children: Heidi (Terry) Allbee and Nathan (Gretchen); grandchildren: Camden, Kenley and Cullan. Mother: Mary; Mother-in-law Garnet Sokolofsky; brothers John (Pat), Mark (Kathy) and Howard (Janet); sistersin law: Sandra Hoerner and Sharon (Roger) Ruscheinsky as well as numerous relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his father Harold, father-in-law Walter, brother-in-law Gerald and Niece Kari Jo.

A Celebration of Life was held on Monday, July 3 at 10:30 at the Carson Fair Building with lunch to follow at Rock Ridge. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
