“News? Got any news?” Those were usually the first words spoken when you called Ida or when she called you.

Ida Alvina Friesz Kufeldt was born November 30, 1943 at home on the farm northwest of Elgin, ND to August and Alvina (Delzer) Friesz. She attended the Antelope Country School completing the eighth grade.

Ida married Karl Kufeldt on December 7, 1960 at the Neuburg Church. To this union one son, Allen was born on November 16, 1962. Allen passed away November 10, 2005 from cancer.

Ida and Karl lived on their farm, north of Burt, until moving to Elgin in the fall of 1986. While on the farm, Ida enjoyed gardening and helping Karl with farming as needed. She always kept a nice, clean and tidy house. Once they moved to Elgin, Ida spent time babysitting for people in town and helped Karl with his lawn service. Later they moved to Mott. She lived in her apartment until October and after a hospital stay, she moved into Dakota Hills Assisted Living in Elgin.

Ida was faithful to her thriving Neuburg Church. She gave memorials to help with projects and a new church sign in memory of Karl. She enjoyed watching the videos of the concerts held there.

Ida never missed a Sunday visit to Karl at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home, blessed to have special friends Otto and Diane Vetter take her, until Covid struck.

Ida enjoyed looking for the “glasses” in the Eido paper, calling weekly to visit with and tell Erv, Donavee and JoAnne where they were located and sometimes received the five dollar reward for her search. Ida looked forward to the trips to the country when Morell would take her and Erma out and travel the back roads, trips to the old homesteads, out to see the new baby calves and cows, driving around to area towns to look at the Christmas lights. There were many visits to the cemeteries to decorate graves on Memorial Day or just to visit Allen, her parents and sister and then Karl, with the final stop always being at Neuburg.

Ida loved getting the mail and faithfully waited for the mailman every day, another person to visit with. She enjoyed outings with Bernell and going to have a bite to eat. She talked to her sister-in-law, Erma Achtenberg on the phone daily.

She is survived by her sisters Pauline (Friesz) LaPointe, Plains, MT; Violet (Friesz) Dahle, Hillsboro, ND; brother Richard Friesz, New Leipzig, ND; sister-in-law Erma Achtenberg, New Leipzig, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents August and Alvina Friesz, husband Karl, son Allen Kufeldt, brothers Emmanuel and Rudy Friesz, sisters Bertha (Friesz) Hirning, Martha (Friesz) Fischer, and Ella Friesz, sister-in-law Dena Schneider and brother-in-law Christ Achtenberg.
