It was here she started kindergarten in 1926. In 1929 her parents bought a farm near Niobrara, Nebraska. This developed into those hard years of the “dirty thirties” and even though her father did trucking and farming they lost the farm. In 1935, the family moved to Sloan, Iowa and in 1939, she graduated from Sloan high school. From 1939 to 1944 she worked cleaning homes for people in the area. As she called it she was a domestic engineer. In 1941 they moved to Whiting, Iowa. From 1944 to 1945 she attended Miltonvale Weslyen College at Miltonvale, Kansas taking general classes. Solly and Dorothy moved into Elgin and Steve took over the farm.

Dorothy taught Sunday school for many years and enjoyed being a part of Bible study groups. She was a long time member of Hope Congregational Church in Elgin. She loved the Lord very much and was such a great prayer warrior for her family. In 1978, Solomon passed away. Mom was such a part of our family helping with gardening, butchering chickens, babysitting her grand children and helping out anyway she could on the farm. She was a very valued part of our family.

In 1996, she married Kenneth Kibbel and they were married seven years before Kenny passed away. She continued to live in Elgin.
