Carolyn A. Wells

Carolyn A Wells, passed away February 6, 2022, at Jacobson Memorial Hospital, Elgin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday February 11, 10:30 a.m. at St Theresa’s Catholic Church with Rosary at 10:00 a.m.

She was born to Peter E and Anna (Kahl) Miller on January 20, 1938, in Flasher. She was the oldest of five children.

Carolyn attended grade school and part of high school in Raleigh. She graduated from St Mary’s Central Catholic High School in Bismarck and Dickinson State Teacher College. She taught for two years at a country school south of Carson when she met a cute cowboy.

On November 20, 1957, she married Gene Wells. Together they ranched south of Carson, raised and showed Arabian horses and owned the Dogtooth Inn at Raleigh for 14 years. She also drove school bus for many years. In 2020 they moved to Elgin.

Carolyn was known to be wherever anyone needed a helping hand. She raised her children in St Theresa’s Catholic Church in Carson, was the 4-H Leader for all of her kids and was always the first to coordinate projects of fundraisers for the school or 4-H. If other kids needed a ride to an event she was always willing to help. Carolyn was always the coordinator for funeral lunches, either serving or coordinating food later in life. It was always her biggest Tupperware container that she took to every function that needed food. Later when the church had priests from India and her youngest was in religion class, Carolyn would be at the parish house cooking for the week for the priest to pass her time while being in town. She always hoped she could teach the priest to cook but they never had an interest. Carolyn was well known to lead the Rosary at St Theresa’s on Sundays. Carolyn was an excellent cook and was always more than willing to share with others. She sewed for her family and taught her girls to sew. She always crocheted and knitted but in the later years that became her passion, making beautiful blankets to give to others and donate to causes.

Survivors include Gene her husband of 64 years, daughters Jennifer (Michael Hartman), Columbia Falls MT and Barbara (Steve Williams), Billings MT. Sister Emma Dubois (Thayer IL). Brothers: Ken (Jackie), Bismarck, Wilburt (Binky), Belfield, Paul, Raleigh. Grandchildren who were thrilled to spend time on the ranch and feast on Grandma’s cooking include: Jeffrey, Jacob and Kaycee Eagleton, Marlin Wells, Katie and Matthew Hartman and Ryan Williams. Five great grandchildren have also benefited from Carolyn’s crochet projects.

Preceded in death includes her children Craig, Lisa and Kathy, parents Peter E and Anna Miller.

The family thanks everyone who took time to call, pray and be there for our family.
