Anna Mary Steckler

On February 17, 2024, Anna Mary Steckler passed from this world to go to her heavenly home with her Lord.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Anna Mary Steckler, age 89 of Elgin, ND was held at 10:30 a.m. MT Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Leipzig, ND. Fr. Chris Kadrmas officiated with burial at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery south of Glen Ullin, ND.

Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary/ Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. MT on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Leipzig Anna Mary (Bachler) Steckler was born January 4, 1935 to John and Anna (Seeberger) Bachler. She was the 5th of 11 children. She was raised on their family farm near Almont, ND. She attended a country school near Almont and was baptized, received her first Holy Communion, and confirmation at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

As a teenager, Anna moved to New York with her sister, Lucille, to be a waitress. After a short time, she moved back to North Dakota to marry the love of her life, Anton Steckler. They were united in marriage on December 28, 1953 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She joined him on the Steckler family farm where they made their home. There they raised their family of nine children, Brenda, Dale, Colette, Nancy, John, Wanda, Chad, JoAnn, and Robert. Instilling a strong work ethic in their children, they operated their dairy farm with the help of their entire family.

Anyone who knew Anna Mary would agree that while she was technically the mom to nine, she took on the role of mom for many others. Anyone who showed up at the farm was warmly welcomed and left with a full belly! She shared her motherly love with many children at Debbie’s Daycare and also at Dakota Hills Care Center. Being a wife, mother, grandmother, and caring for others were definite priorities and joys in her life. Next to being a wife and mother, however, her most important relationship was with Christ. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and would pray the Rosary, sometimes multiple times a day.
