The Beach City Council met on Oct. 5, discussing the ongoing construction project, upcoming community events and applications for local permits and community enhancement funding.
After the vouchers were reviewed by the council, Councilman Tom Marman made a motion to approve the vouchers with the stipulation that they don’t pay any vouchers from the 2026 street improvement project until the funding has been made available to the city.
“This money doesn’t come to us until 2028. That’s how far we’re out of getting started on getting our money back from this project....,” Councilman Marman said. “It comes from the Bank of North Dakota and they usually pay before the DOT. If it comes from the Bank of North Dakota, whatever they give, that can be doled out.”
The rest of the council agreed with Marman, with the motion passing unanimously.
Engineer Jasper Klein shared some updates about the construction on Main Street. He said that Main Street is 99% paved now. The workers completed their sewer storm work last month, now all that’s left to do is some concrete valley gutters work.
Klein is hopeful that by the end of this week, Oct. 16, Main Street will be open.
“The valley gutters here at Second Street that go two directions, they have to cut in,” Klein said. “They got to cut the asphalt and pour the concrete valley gutters. They got a couple more, going down the line towards fifth that they got to do yet.”
Moving on to Public Works Superintendent Randy Dietz’s report, he shared that he would like to see a Cruise Night on Oct. 16, 7-11 p.m. Drivers can flash their lights and honk their horns while driving down the newly paved Central Avenue and Main Street in celebration of the newly paved roads. Some businesses along those roads may be offering special deals as well.
Beach Close Up submitted an application for a local permit to the council. They are planning to do a calendar raffle in the 12 days leading up to Christmas. They’re selling 400 tickets and giving away cash prizes. They’re planning to use the funds to send students to the Close Up trip to New York City.
The motion was passed to approve their application.
The Golden Valley FFA Chapter submitted two applications for community enhancement funding. On one application, they requested $250 for their upcoming FFA Fall Festival and Family Fun event, to be held at the Gazebo Park on Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This event will include fun activities for everyone to enjoy, like a pumpkin baking contest, a fall parade, face painting, pumpkin carving and painting, hayrides, guided floral arrangement making and more.
They’ve also requested that Main Street be blocked off from 10 a.m. -2 p.m. for the event.
The motion was passed to approve their request for the $250.
In their other application, the FFA Chapter requested $2,000 for their upcoming trip to the FFA National Convention later this month, in Indianapolis, IN. Eight members of the chapter will be representing Golden Valley County at the convention.
The motion was passed that the chapter will receive $800 ($100 per student) for their upcoming trip on Oct. 21.
The next Beach City Council meeting will be on Oct. 19.
