American Legion Post 115 has a new home

Posted

The American Legion Post 115 of Hettinger opened its doors in its new location on Friday, October 9. Although the remodel of the former Killdeer Mountain Manufacturing building is not complete, the American Legion bar is ready to serve customers whether it is a beverage, pool, darts, gambling or a light meal between 6 am and close.
The hope had been to qualify for a grant to help the organization buy the building outright. When that did not happen, the organization went to banks which ask for a retail history. Coming from the original building, American Legion Post 115 Commander Brad Guthrie did not feel their accounting would show an accurate picture of what they feel they are capable of. Therefore, they will enter into a one year Contract for Deed with the City of Hettinger in order to develop that financial history. Their hope is that at the end of the year they will be able to achieve their own financing.
Vide Commander Trevor Wolff and Brad Guthrie will attack the kitchen next. With hunting season having started, Hettinger is in need of another location to eat. Without a kitchen currently, the Legion cannot serve full menu meals but will be providing light breakfast and lunch items.
In a small town, we know many of us wear many hats. That is the case with Brad Guthrie and Trevor Wolff. Both have full time jobs plus Guthrie helps coach the Night Hawk football team and Wolff is head coach of the Night Hawk Girl’s wrestling team. Guthrie said “Without the help of our wives and Trevor’s son, we would not be this far. We just want them to know how grateful we are. We really want to thank our wives for their support over the last five months with us working long nights and sometimes into the early mornings. Also, I want to thank Trevor’s family for all the work they have put in from bringing us dinner, cleaning, and multiple other jobs.”
