The skyline in Elgin will be missing something in the next few days, as the Dakota Grain Company is having the elevator torn down.
The elevator which was built in 1915, making it 104 years old has become obsolete in the day-to-day business of Dakota Grain.
The company still has their scale house and nothing else will change; it will be business as usual.
Jim Maier, part owner of Dakota Grain, had thought about tearing down the old bins and elevator in the past, but it wasn’t until the need of local business Gooseneck came about that a plan was put into place.
