Brian & Lujuanna George

Jacalyn Hartman

A look back at 2018...

continued from last week

Over a three-week span, 36 turkeys were given away through the Elgin Community Betterment and participating businesses that sponsored the turkey drawings in November. Participants just had to fill out an entry slip with their name and phone numbers or addresses and drop them off in the designated boxes around town. Many happy participants received turkeys weighing from 12 to 16 lbs.

The Elgin/New Leipzig second grade class mailed out 80 letters to Veterans near and far away. Veterans received a letter from the class, and a letter and a coloring from a student.

Through the NDSU Harvest Bowl, area agriculturists were honored for their contributions to the industry. The Grant County Honoree was Jacalyn Hartman who raises pigs and sheep near Elgin for 4-H projects and is a certified crop advisor. Sioux County Honorees were Brian and Lujuanna George who have a commercial cattle operation on a fifth-generation ranch near Solen, using crop and pasture rotation farming and ranching practices.
