Country Community Cupboard celebrates first year of filling cupboards
When the Country Community Cupboard in Elgin opened a year ago, organizers had one goal.
“My whole hope through this is that people go home at night and have food on their table. That is not something anyone should have to struggle with. I think all of us can say that we have a desire to make sure people have food on their table and can feed their families,” Ruth Roth said when the food pantry opened last year.
With 140 households registered since it opened in January 2020, the Country Community Cupboard has, indeed, put food on the table – 32,265 pounds of food, in fact. The food pantry has helped 560 households in the past year, including 633 senior citizens and 225 children.
