Kristie Bovkoon greets customers at at Rustic Restoration in Elgin, where a unique sign announces the business.

A second life at Rustic Restoration

Kristie Bovkoon has built and rebuilt her business three times, now settling Rustic Restoration into a house at 307 S. Main St. in Elgin, all while following a Bible verse about rebuilding and restoring.

Kristie launched her business in Leith six years ago, after being offered a house in which to locate by good friends in that community. She and her husband, Gary, cleaned the older home and started the business, offering antiques and repurposed furniture and other pieces.

“I gave the business to the Lord,” she says.

When Kristie moved the business to a house in Carson, she stenciled a verse on the wall from Isaiah 61:4: “They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.”
