World Down Syndrome Day
March 21st is a dedicated day around the Globe to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. The reason the 21st was chosen is because Down syndrome affects the 21st chromosome of the people who have it. Immediately at conception, an extra “piece” attaches to the 21st chromosome, and that can cause developmental delays, certain health problems, and about 50% of the people who have Down syndrome can also have some type of heart condition, ranging from mild to severe.
