Bulldogs take second in District 9 Tournament

Flasher vs. New Salem/Almont 52-43

The #2 seeded Flasher Bulldogs kicked off District 9 Tournament play Saturday, Feb. 28, after a first-round bye.

The Bulldogs went up against the New Salem/Almont Holsteins. “We went in knowing New Salem/Almont is a hard-nosed physical team, the guys went in knowing it was going to be a tall task and it was going to be one of those grind-it-out 32 minute games that you know defense is going to prevail. We held them to 43 total points. Going into the third quarter we were up one and we made a nice run that was really ignited by our defense. We were able to get stops and transition into offense and score. Jaron Reis was a big part of that. The guys have all been working hard and it paid off to get that victory over New Salem/ Almont in that semi-final round. That’s a big one – if you win that one, you are in the Regional Tournament, so that was huge. Our guys were really excited about getting the victory,” said Head Coach Brian Nieuwsma.
