In the early morning hours Tuesday, May 5, 2020 with her daughters at her side, Hilma Louise Kramer was asked to go dancing again with Leo. With a little sweet talking she accepted and they are together to dance more polkas, waltzes, and two steps on heavens dance floor.
Hilma Louise (Hoffman) Kramer was born November 11, 1930 in Bentley, ND to Fred K. Hoffman and Christina (Huber) Hoffman. She grew up in the dirty 30’s spending lots of time working on the farm doing stuff kids now wouldn’t think of doing. The family worked hard but always had time to play—they had enough kids for their own ball team and neighbors would walk a mile sometimes to play. School wasn’t needed much for girls at that time so she only attended through eigth grade.
In 1947 she started waitress work at Butts Motel in Mott. She met Leo Kramer at a dance in New Leipzig and they were married November 17, 1949. They call Elgin home and raised two girls, Wanda and Pam.
Hilma did waitress work for about 40 years working for Butts Motel, Stegmeier Café, Braun Café, Dachtler Café, Zachers, Winkler and Zachers again, and the Family Rec Center. She also cooked at the Elgin School for five years, worked at the motel for Rivinius, Werner, Haas, Schatz, and until the last three years for Paul and Pam Hillius (sonin-law and daughter) at the same motel. She did housekeeping for Dr. Patel, Jeff and Marcy Ketterling, and Dr. Hsu.
Hilma also liked to dance, garden, sew, craft, cook, and play bingo. Her favorite hobby was PULL TABS.
Grateful for sharing her life include daughters, Wanda (Maynard) Vizenor, Lake Park, MN; Pam (Paul) Hillius, Elgin, ND; grandchildren, Jason and Brandon (Laura Egeberg) Vizenor, Kara (Ed) and Arik Hillius, great grandchildren, Chenoa and Jason Jr. Vizenor.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, grandson, Chad; parents, in-laws, 8 brothers, 4 sisters, and numerous brother and sisters-in-law.
